How to mix and match outdoor furniture materials | 2021 Garden Trends

Our garden design consultants work way ahead of the clock to determine the upcoming garden trends and styles for 2021.

A common theme we look for is the contrast in garden furniture; be it in the material, colour, or texture.

Most sets on our website have some element of contrast. For example, the Prestbury collection which has a lighter weave and darker cushions.

We expect contrasting materials to be a popular pick for this season; by combining wood, metal, or rattan amongst the same set. Here are our top recommendations to keep your garden ahead of the style curve.

Contrast Chairs and Tables

A quick and easy way to keep your garden on trend is by choosing a different style table to the chairs. Our Hampton Dining Table looks sleek and chic, by mixing a ceramic dining table with metal chairs.

The maintains a level of flexibility and fluidity, as the chairs can be replaced with another material as time goes on.

By being sold individually, Europa Leisure tables can also help to keep costs down, as existing chairs you may have could be reused or upcycled.

It is also worth considering benches on each side of the table, to create a banqueting style set.

Pick a Set Combining Materials

Some furniture sets come ready made with mixed materials; ideal if you are looking to enter the world of stylish garden furniture.

Hartman’s Singapore Corner Set does just this, by combining teak wood with aluminium framework. The natural appearance of the wood can act as a transition piece in your garden from patio area to garden, and can simply blend a garden area into one flowing piece.

The colour scheme works perfectly, maintaining a stylishly minimal appearance to the set.

Our Milano Corner Set also works in a similar manner, but uses wood effect metal rather than real wood; ideal for those who do not wish to have the routine maintenance required with teak.

Our Kettler Palma set with Polywood table is another stunning option, which again combines and contrasts materials to great effect.

Materials which Provide Added Comfort

Another reason to consider contrasting materials is to enhance comfort. On those sets which don’t have cushions included, look for sling or textilene style seats.

As well as keeping the costs down (as less wood means less cost!), the elastic nature of slings and textilene provides a more comfortable sitting experience.

The Roble Sling Chair looks the part; stylishly contrasting charcoal colouring with the light vibrant Roble Hardwood. This classy look to the chair, along with the added comfort, is another reason why mixed materials should be considered for 2021.
