Are Electric or Petrol Lawnmowers better?

Electric

Suitable for smaller gardens, electric lawnmowers are often the more popular choice, as they are easy to maneuver and lift. With no need to fill the mower with oil or petrol before you use it, electric mowers are cost effective, low maintenance and cheaper to run.

Electric lawnmowers are much more environmentally friendly than a petrol run mower, as they emit no harmful pollution and require no natural resources, making these the ideal purchase for the eco-friendly. Electric mowers are much quieter than petrol pushers and are bound to keep your neighbours happier when they are trying to relax in their garden.

Here at GardenStreet we have a wide range of premium electric mowers from reputable brands such as Draper, Bosch, Flymo and Webb.

Petrol

Petrol lawnmowers are ideal for those with a larger garden or gardens that are not near an immediate power supply as you are not limited by cords or extension cables. Petrol mowers tend to have more power than electric, allowing them to cut through tougher grass with ease, mowing vast areas of grass and providing you with an overall easier experience.

Even though petrol run mowers need filling up, a small amount of petrol can go a long way and they need very little maintenance, with no need to charge batteries.

Find a full range of Petrol Mowers on our website, from brands such as Draper, McCulloch, Q Garden and Webb.

Ride-On

Even though ride-on mowers can be more expensive than electric or petrol push mowers, they are an investment piece that will provide many benefits. Ride-On mowers are ideal for maintaining larger gardens, golf courses and commercial areas.

Ride-On mowers are suitable for people with back problems who cannot stand or push heavy products for longer periods of time. The convenience of a key start, as opposed to a pull chord, and the ability to sit and drive allow you to trim your grass with great ease.

The ergonomic design of ride on mowers provides you with the opportunity to do more than just cut your grass. There are a wide range of attachments available for ride-on mowers, allowing you to spread seeds and fertilise the ground.

Ride-On mowers are premium and high quality, ensuring durability and longevity.

Ergonomic, Efficient, and Practical...

For golf courses, larger gardens, and schools and parks, sometimes it can be unpractical and unmanageable to use a standard push mower to maintain your grass and lawn. Our collection of Ride-on Mowers are ergonomic and can improve efficiency, and are favoured in both domestic and commercial settings.

For a truly premium experience, try the McCulloch M125-97TC 344cc Ride-On Mower which has a 220 Litre Turbo Collection and comes complete with Briggs & Stratton 344cc Engine, and a choice of six cutting heights.

Do I need to use a Grass Strimmer as well as a lawnmower?

Gas trimmers have greater flexibility and manoeuvrability than lawnmowers, and can get into those tight to reach places, such as around borders and planters.

Grass trimmers are straightforward and relatively easy to use, however, there are some safety points to bear in mind while operating the machinery.

Using Trimmers Correctly and Safely

Protective clothing should be considered when using trimmers to avoid any potential injuries. Some trimmers can be quite loud, and it is advised to wear ear defenders to avert any long term ear or hearing damage. If a trimmer gets too close to gravel, it can cause unexpected debris to hit the face or body. Try to wear long trousers and sleeves and protective eye wear to prevent debris, such as stones and small twigs, causing injury to any exposed skin.

To ensure your trimmer has a longer life span, try not to use it in wet weather as the wet grass can slowly wear down the motor. If the ground you also run the risk of slipping when using in wet weather. To avoid tripping or slipping, never walk backwards or sideways while operating a grass trimmer.

Pressure Washers

Suitable for cleaning patios, decking, bicycles and cars, pressure washers take the hard work out of those tedious garden jobs. Browse the Karcher Eco range for a more environmentally friendly solution.

The ergonomic Eco switch reduces energy and water consumption by 20% and the innovative water cooled motor prolongs its lifespan, ensuring the best possible performance for the task in hand.

How to Pressure Wash Your Patio or Decking Area

Keeping your patio and decking clean can be time consuming, however you can make the job quick and simple by using a high quality pressure washer.

Clear the area of any furniture or plant pots and remove any loose debris, such as leaves and twigs (why not browse our range of rakes and leaf blowers to help make the job easier). Once the area is clear of any debris, connect your hose to your garden tap and connect your pressure washer to the mains supply. The initial spray can be quite strong, so always point the nozzle to the floor when first switching the machine on.

For best results, you can apply cleaning solution to the surface prior to washing; The Karcher K4 Home Pressure Washer comes with a 3-in-1 cleaning solution included, which would be perfect for the job.

Use a high pressure setting to shift the dirt and grime and turn the pressure down to a lower setting to rinse. If the area is chipped, then do not use a high power setting as this may cause further chipping or damage.

What is the benefit of shredding garden waste?

Tired of having to take numerous trips to your local rubbish tip or recycling centre just to dispose of your garden waste? Well look no further! Purchasing a garden shredder is a great investment as it reduces your garden waste.

The innovative design condenses twigs, branches and leaves, making this easier to transport and dispose of garden waste or reuse for compost and mulch.

Shredding your garden foliage or kitchen waste, such as fruit and vegetables, to use for compost is invaluable for any gardener. The shredded mulch can be spread over soil and constantly produces nutrients; keeping the ground moist for plants and preventing weeds from growing. By shredding hedges and shrubs, wood chippings can also be used to create paths around your garden.

Making mulch and compost from your own garden waste saves you time and money in the long run and is the perfect tool to make maintaining your garden more straightforward.
