Do I Need Special Bark for Using Around Play Equipment?
When purchasing your Hyland or Jungle Gym playframe, or one of our selection of wooden playhouses, you may wish to surround the area with bark. Although we have a wide collection of barks available, it is important to choose the safest bark as certain ones may be unsuitable.
Rolawn Play Grade bark is tested in Accordance with BSEN117:2008 for Impact Absorption (should a child fall), and is free of chemical contamination. Like Rolawn, Hallstone Playchips are also certified to British Standards EN 1177:1998 Impact Absorbing Playground Surfacing. Again, they are free of pests, pathogens, and weed seeds. However, these also are certified in fire safety, in the ease of ignition test.
With Hallstone Playchips, it is recommended a coverage of no less than 150mm if used as a play surface. It is also important to remove any pieces of oversized wood that may be in the bag, due to the natural state of this product.
