Wormeries are the new mini composters! They produce a fine mulch, which, as well as helping to get rid of food waste, can be used on plants as a nutrient-rich food source.
Much of your kitchen waste can be added to your wormery; food scraps, peelings, tea leaves, coffee grounds, egg shells, bread, pasta and rice can all go in. You can even add household waste like vacuum cleaner dust, hair, wool and cotton.
Some things aren’t appropriate for a wormery, including lemon, lime, orange and other citrus peels or juice, as it makes the soil too acidic. Avoid onions and garlic too as they can cause your wormery to smell. Meat, fats, grease, bones and oil are also not appropriate for wormeries.
