Aluminium Garden Furniture

Sleek and contemporary, it is no surprise that aluminium furniture is a favourite choice for our customers looking for modern garden furniture. Durable and light with anti-rust properties, aluminium is a great material for garden furniture when cared for correctly.

The Kettler Elba collection is a sleek and modern take on metal furniture, whereas LG Outdoor's Turin range is made to look traditional with wood-effect aluminium tops to the table. The Monza range by LG Outdoor is a combination of both - with contemporary aluminium framework with wood-effect ceramic tabletops.

We work with brands such as KettlerNorfolk LeisureHartman and LG Outdoor so we can offer our customers the best of the latest trends both on our site and in our Cheshire showroom.

Does aluminium furniture rust?

No, aluminium does not rust. Aluminium is best known for its anti-rusting properties making it a popular material for garden furniture. Lighter and cheaper than other metals such as steel or iron, aluminium is durable and easy to maintain, and can last up to 20 years when cared for correctly.

Sometimes, aluminium can oxidise. Oxidisation looks like a thin, white, powdery layer on the surface of the metal. This can be removed easily and prevented by using aftercare products similar to what you would use on your car, such as car wax.

How to maintain aluminium garden furniture?

While aluminium garden furniture is low maintenance, it is always good to know what precautionary steps you can take to ensure that your garden furniture lasts for years to come. A good starting point is a breathable furniture cover. Not only will this protect your furniture from the elements, but it will also prevent humidity and condensation that can cause the surface to tarnish.

When it comes to cleaning your aluminium furniture, be careful with what chemicals you use. Warm soapy water is effective enough as long as you ensure that the soap residue is rinsed away after. However, if you have noticed areas with oxidation, products that are alkaline based can worsen this. We recommend using a damp cloth with a simple acidic solution of white vinegar or lemon juice to treat the affected area.

Can aluminium be left outside?

Absolutely. Aluminium is a great choice for garden furniture as it can be left outside all year round. With most aluminium sets, you will have soft furnishings such as cushions that will need to be stored somewhere dry during the wetter, colder months. As for the frame, this can be left out in all seasons without much fuss.

While we advise covering most sets when not in use, we especially advise covering aluminium garden furniture to protect it from other factors that may be detrimental to the metal if not dealt with quickly. As you may be aware, bird droppings can corrode metal over time.

This can be avoided by covering your set when not in use, however, if you do find that your furniture has been targeted, you can use a simple solution of vinegar and water to soften the droppings so that it is easier to remove. Wipe clan ensuring no residue is left behind.
